COLONIAL SECRETARY'S DEPARTMENT.

No. 1147.-The following Public and General Holidays will be observed as Government Holidays in 1940 :-

Public Holiday :

Empire Day, or if that day should be a Sunday,} Friday, 24th May.

then the following day

Every Sunday

General Holidays:

The First week-day in January

Monday, 1st January.

Chinese New Year's Day, or if that day should be Thursday, 8th February.

a Sunday, then the following day.

The First week-day following Chinese New Year's '

Day, or if Chinese New Year's Day should

be a Sunday, then the Tuesday following Friday, 9th February. Chinese New Year's Day

Good Friday

The day following Good Friday

Easter Monday

Whit Monday..

.Monday, 13th May.

The Birthday of His Majesty the King, unless it

shall be ordered by the Governor, by an order

published in the Gazette, that His Majesty's Thursday, 13th June. Birthday is to be kept on some other day,

The tenth day of October, or if that day should

be a Sunday, then the following day

Armistice Day, or if that day should be a Sunday,

then the following day

It is hereby notified that His Excellency the Governor has been pleased to exclude the Magistrates from the operation of the Holidays Ordinance, 1912, Ordinance No. 5 of 1912, on the 1st January, 9th February, 23rd and 25th March, 13th May, 1st July, 5th August, 2nd September, 11th November and 26th December.

The Imports and Exports Department will be open for the purpose of Revenue collection and issue of permits only from 9 a.m. to 12 Noon on all the above days except Sundays, Chinese New Year's Day, Good Friday, 10th October and Christmas Day.
