THE HONG KONG GOVERNMENT GAZETTE, OCTOBER 2, 1939.

AND WHEREAS by the first section of the Naval Reserve (Mobilization) Act, 1900, it is enacted that it shall be lawful for His Majesty, in case of any such order and direction, to authorize the Admiralty to give, and when given, to revoke or vary, such directions as may seem necessary or proper for calling out all or any of the said volunteers as the occasion may require :

AND WHEREAS His Majesty has communicated to Parlia- ment (or has declared in Council) and notified by Proclamation that, owing to the state of public affairs and the demands upon His naval forces for the protection of the Empire, an occasion has arisen for ordering and directing as in the said first- mentioned Act is provided:

Now I, Sir GEOFFRY ÁLEXANDER STAFFORD NORTHCOTE, Knight Commander of the Most Distingished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George, Governor and Commander-in-Chief of the Colony of Hong Kong and its Dependencies, and Vice- Admiral of the same, hereby PROCLAIM and NOTIFY that His Majesty has ordered and directed that the Royal Naval Reserves, or such part of them as the Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty may direct, be called into actual service.

Given under my hand and the Public Seal of the Colony at Victoria, Hong Kong, this 30th day of September, 1939.

Men absent from the British Islands,

His Majesty the King, having issued His Proclamation ordering and directing that the Royal Naval Volunteers (commonly known as the Royal Naval Reserve) under the Royal Naval Reserve (Volunteer) Act, 1859, or as many or such part of them as the Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty may direct, be called into Actual Service:
