COLONIAL SECRETARY'S DEPARTMENT.

No. 631-A Competitive Examination for appointments of Probationer Clerks (Male) in Government Service will be held in King's College ou Saturday, 2nd September, 1939, at 9 a.m., when all candidates will be examined in English Dictation, and on Thursday, 7th September, 1939, when only those who have passed in Dictation will be examined in Arithmetic, Composition, General Knowledge, Translation from English to Chinese and from Chinese to English.

A list of the Index Numbers of Candidates who have passed the Dictation test will be posted at Noon on Tuesday, 5th September, 1939, at King's College, the General Post Office (Hong Kong and Kowloon) and the Colonial Secretariat.

The Examination will be limited to persons in possession of a Hong Kong School Certificate or other certificate of a recognized examining body accepted by the Director of Education as equivalent. For this purpose certificates issued by Headmasters will not be accepted.

Intending candidates must forward to the Colonial Secretary's Office in envelopes clearly marked "J. C. S. Examination" on or before Friday, 25th August, 1939, a copy of their school certificate together with a certificate as to character and education from the Headmaster of their last school and one unmounted photograph on the back of which should be written the candidate's name, address and date of birth.

No. 633.It is hereby notified that Tsim-sha-tsui Pier, Kowloon, will be closed until further notice as from Monday, 7th August, 1939 in order to facilitate repairs to this Pier and it is further notified that no vessel may anchor or secure to this Pier as from the said date and until further notice.

Launches may use the Railway Pier adjoining the Kowloon Canton Railway Station from the said date and until further notice
