Lights for Rescue, Repair, etc., Work.
14. Lights may be used which are necessary for the performance of urgent rescue, demolition or repair work carried out by members of essential civilian services or by the servants or authorized agents of Government Departments, local authorities, public utility companies or railway com- panies, provided:-
(i) that, so far as practicable, the lights are so screened that no light is thrown above the horizontal;
(ii) that where the temporary discontinuance of the work is practicable, the lights are extinguished immediately on receipt of an AIR RAID WARNING.
15. Hand lamps may be used by members of essential civilian services in the performance of their duties provided. they are so employed that no light is thrown above the horizontal.
Guide Lights.
16. Lights may be used to indicate dangerous places or as guides to Air Raid Shelters or other important points, pro- vided that they are so screened and dimmed that no light is thrown above the horizontal and that no appreciable light is thrown on the ground or on adjacent surfaces.
Railways.
17. Such lights on trains and signal lights on the railway as are necessary to bring all traffic to a stop may remain lit but all such lights must be extinguished within three minutes after the sounding of an AIR RAID WARNING or after rail traffic has stopped and shall not be lit until the RAIDERS PASSED SIGNAL has been sounded.
18.--(1) Lights to
Docks.
indicate obstructions at docks and the like may be retained, provided that they are so screened that no light is thrown above the horizontal and that no appreciable light is thrown on the ground, on adjacent surfaces, or on the water.
(2) In case of difficulty in docking or berthing a ship, docking or berthing lights may be used, provided:---
(i) that they are so screened that no light is thrown above the horizontal;
(ii) that as far as practicable they are reduced in inten- sity;
(iii) that they are extinguished immediately their use ceases to be necessary.
(3) Lights may be used for the purpose of loading and unloading ships and other vessels, provided :—
(i) that they are so screened that no light is thrown above the horizontal;
(ii) that as far as practicable they are reduced in inten- sity;
Provided that on the sounding of an AIR RAID WARNING and not later than three minutes thereafter all the above mentioned lights shall be extinguished and shall not be lit during a BLACKÕUT,
