APPOINTMENTS, &c.

No. 544.-His Excellency the Governor has been pleased to appoint the Honourable Mr. WILLIAM JAMES CARRIE to act as Colonial Secretary, with effect from the 5th July, 1939, on the departure from the Colony of the Honourable Mr. NORMAN LOCKHART SMITH, C.M G., until further notice.

No. 545.-His Excellency the Governor has been pleased to appoint Mr. HENRY ROBERT BUTTERS to act as Secretary for Chinese Affairs, in addition to his other duties, with effect from the 5th July, 1939, until futher notice.

No. 546. His Excellency the Governor has been pleased to appoint Mr. ALEXANDER BRUCE PURVES, M. Inst. C.E., to act as Director of Public Works, with effect from the 7th July, 1939.

No. 547. His Excellency the Governor has been pleased to appoint Mr. ABBAS EL ARCULLI to be a Member of the Board of Education for a further period of two years, with effect from the 8th July, 1939.

3rd July, 1939.

No. 548.-Ilis Excellency the Governor has been pleased to appoint Mr. Li TSE- FONG, provisionally, and subject to His Majesty's pleasure, to be temporarily an Unofficial Member of the Legislative Council, in place of Dr. Li SHU-FAN, who is temporarily absent from the Colony, with effect from 7th July, 1939.

No. 549.-His Excellency the Governor has been pleased to approve that Lieutenant MARTIN INGRAM DE VILLE be allowed to resign his commission in the Hong Kong Volunteer Defence Corps, with effect from 16th June, 1939.

No. 550-His Excellency the Governor has been pleased to appoint Mr. DENIS HENRY BLAKE to be Superintendent, Auxiliary Fire Service.
