Notification No. 1216 of Department of Communications.

Shimonoseki Strait.

New light Shown and Temporary light withdrawn.

NOTICE is hereby given that the following new lighthouse recently established at Yamazokonohana, Western entrance to Shimonoseki Strait has been shown since the 22nd September, 1918, and on the same time the Yamazokonohana temporary lighthouse (See Notification No. 715 of Department of Communications, May, 1918), withdrawn:

Position-Lat. 33° 54' 57" N., Long. 130° 55′ 13′′ E. (According to the Japa-

nese Admiralty Chart No. 135).

Description-Lower part circular Stone, middle part iron cylinder, upper part

iron lattice work, painted black.

Height of light-36 shaku above the base and 35 shaku above the water.

Character of light :-Pintsch's gas Occulting white, light 4 seconds, eclipse 2

seconds.

Illuminated are: An arc 244°, from S. 14° W., through W. and N. to N. 78°

E. (Magnetic bearings taken from seaward.)

Powers:-200 candles.

Distance Visible:-11 nautical miles in clear night.

Note:-The light being unwatched, should the light go out by accident there may be some delay in relighting it.
