NOTICES TO MARINERS.

COMMONWEALTH OF AUSTRALIA.

1918. No. 3.

The Astronomical positions are only approximate unless seconds are given. The bearings are given both True and Magnetic, and those relating to lights are from seaward. The visibility of lights is that in clear weather. Fog signals are sounded only in thick or foggy weather. The elevation given is the height of focal plane above high water.

AUSTRALIA

SOUTH COAST.

Rivoli Bay.

Penguin Island Light:

(1) Intended alteration in character.

(2) Signal Station and Fog Signal to be discontinued.

MARINERS and others are hereby notified that :—

(1) The Single Flashing Light with white and red sectors on Penguin Island will be replaced by a Group Flashing Light with white and red sectors; (2) The Signal Station and Fog Signal will be discontinued, and the light-

keepers withdrawn on or about 20th May, 1918.

Position.--Near the south extreme of Penguin Island.

Latitude 37° 31' S.; Longitude 140° 01′ E.

Structure.-Former white circular stone tower 39 feet high.

Details.-The Single Flashing Light with white and red sectors will be replaced

by a new light having the undermentioned characteristics.

Character-Group Flashing Light with white and red sectors, showing taco flashes

in quick succession every ten seconds, thus:-
