APPOINTMENTS, &c.
No. 1167.-His Excellency the Officer Administering the Government has been pleased to appoint Mr. ARCHIBALD HENRY ELSTON to act as Assistant Superintendent of Police as from the 17th October, 1940, until further notice.

No. 1168.-His Excellency the Officer Administering the Government has been pleased to appoint Mr. WILLIAM RICHARD CHESTERWOODS to act as Assistant Superin- tendent of Police as from the 17th October, 1940, until further notice.

No. 1169.-His Excellency the Governor has been pleased to appoint, under section 9 (3) of the Liquors Ordinance, 1931, Ordinance No. 36 of 1931, Mr. CHARLES BErnard BROWN, J.P., to be a Member of the Licensing Board for a further period of three years, with effect from 28th October, 1940.

No. 1170.-His Excellency the Officer Administering the Government has been pleased to appoint Mr. SAMUEL LEWIS LLOYD to act as Organizer of the General Group for Essential Services in the Hong Kong Defence Reserve, during the absence from the Colony of Mr. JOHN KEITH BOUSFIELD, M.C.

No. 1171.--It is hereby notified that Mr. WALLACE J. HANSEN, Honorary Consul for the Republic of Finland at Hong Kong, resumed charge of the Finland Consulate on 21st October, 1940.

His Excellency the Officer Administering the Government has approved the relinquishment of their commissions from the Hong Kong Naval Volunteer Force by the following officers with effect from 1st October, 1940:
