(NAVAL VOLUNTEER).
In exercise of the powers conferred by section 8 of the Naval Volunteer Ordinance, 1933, His Excellency the Officer Administering the Government dispenses with the services of Sub-Lieutenant GEORGE FISH, Warrant Oflicer JAMES ROSS and Warrant Officer CHARLES YOUNG as members of the Hong Kong Naval Volunteer Force.

ORDINANCE No. 10 of 1899. (MERCHANT SHIPPING).
In exercise of the powers conferred by section 1. (2) (d) of the Emergency Powers (Defence) Act, 1939, as applied to this Colony by the Emergency Powers (Colonial Defence) Order in Council, 1939, published respectively as Govern- ment Notifications Nos. 707 and 708 in the Gazette Extra- ordinary No. 39 of the 26th August, 1939, His Excellency the Officer Administering the Government makes the follow- ing regulation amending the Merchant Shipping Ordinance,
1899.
Amendment.
The following proviso is added at the end of section 4 of the Merchant Shipping Ordinance, 1899. after the proviso added thereto by Government Notification No. 545 published in the Gazette of the 17th May, 1940:-
Provided also that nothing in this section or in any other enactment to the contrary shall be deemed to prevent or to have prevented the engagement and employment, as Second Engineers under temporary permit from the Governor, of experienced uncertificated engineers where the Governor is satisfied that a certificated engineer cannot be obtained.
