THE HONG KONG GOVERNMENT GAZETTE, MAY 31, 1940.

No. 597.-Ilis Excellency the Officer Administering the Government has been pleased, under instructions from the Right Honourable the Secretary of State for the Colonies, to appoint Mr. FREDERICK EDWARD EVELYN BOOKER to be an Assistant Superin- tendent of Police, with effect from the 1st of April, 1940.

30th May, 1940.

No. 598. The senior military officer for the time being in command of Ilis Majesty's regular troops in the Colony, under the powers conferred by section 2 (1) of the Compulsory Service Ordinance, No. 32 of 1939, appointed Lieutenant-Colonel HENRY BARRON ROSE, M.C., Commandant, Hong Kong Volunteer Defence Corps, to be the Proper Military Authority for the purposes of sections S, and 11 of the said Ordinance, with effect from the 20th May, 1940.

No. 599.-Ilis Excellency the Officer Administering the Government has been pleased, under instructions from the Right Honourable the Secretary of State for the Colonies, to appoint Mr. HAROLD George WallINGTON, M.A. (Cantab.), to be Principal, King's College, with effect from the 20th of November, 1939.

COLONIAL SECRETARY'S DEPARTMENT.

No. 600.-It is notified for general information that the following are to be regarded as areas in enemy occupation:-

The Kingdom of Norway with the exception of northern provinces (Nordland, Troms, Finmark and Svalbard (Spitzbergen ) ), The Kingdom of the Netherlands and The Grand Duchy of Luxemburg.

This notification does not apply to Netherlands dependencies.

No. 601.-In accordance with regulation 8 of the Regulations as to grant, forfei- Jure, restoration and other matters concerning The Efficiency Medal in regard to the Hong Kong Volunteer Defence Corps, published as Notification No. 579 in the Gazette of 2nd August, 1935, His Excellency the Officer Administering the Government has been pleased to authorize the following award :-

Efficiency Medal.
