COLONIAL SECRETARY'S DEPARTMENT.

No. 559. Notice is hereby given that NORMAN LOCKHART SMITH, Esquire, Com- panion of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George, has, by virtue of the provisions of the Letters Patent passed under the Great Seal of the United Kingdom constituting the office of Governor and Commander-in-Chief of the Colony of Hong Kong and providing for the Government thereof, to-day assumed the administra- tion of the Government of the Colony on the departure of His Excellency the Governor, and has taken the prescribed Oaths.
