(2) The engine shall be of the internal combustion

(3) The engine, fuel tank, electric batteries (if any), and exhaust system shall be effectively screened from the body of the tank wagon by a fire-resisting shield which shall project downwards to a point not more than twelve inches from the ground, and upwards-

(a) to a point level with the top of the tank, unless the roof of the driver's cab is constructed of fire-resisting material and without any opening,

(b) in any case, to a point level with the roof of the driver's cab:

Provided that, if the driver's cab is, with the exception of any windows therein, constructed of steel throughout, the rear of such cab shall be deemed to constitute part of the shield for the purposes of this regulation.

(4) Paragraph (3) of this regulation shall not apply to any fuel tank which-

(a) is fitted with a fuel feed apparatus, screened from the body of the tank wagon by the fire-resisting shield, for the purpose of lifting the fuel from the fuel tank to the engine, (b) is protected from blows by the frame of the chassis of the tank wagon or by strong steel guards,

(c) has a lock fitted to the filling hole cover, and

(d) contains fuel having a flash point above 150° Fahren- heit.

(5) Every window in the fire-resisting shield shall be fitted with wired glass.

(6) Every fuel feed pipe shall be fitted with a quick- action cut off valve in a position easily accessible and clearly marked.

(7)—(a) A space of at least six inches shall intervene between the front of the tank and the fire-resisting shield.

(b) Such space shall at all times be kept clear and unobstructed and shall not be used to accommodate any equipment, article, or thing.

(8) The tank, if not a component part of the frame of the tank wagon, shall be securely attached thereto : provided that a removable tank securely fastened to a cradle may be used on any vehicle which complies with the regulations in Section B of this Part as well as with the regulations in this Section.

(9) Every tank having a capacity exceeding 600 gallons shall be divided into self-contained compartments, each having a capacity not exceeding 600 gallons, or shall be fitted with efficient baffle plates to prevent surge.

(10)-(a) Every draw-off pipe shall be fitted with an internal valve, a strong and secure tap, and a strong and

secure screw cap.

(b) Every such tap shall be either enclosed in a strong locked box made of fire resisting material, or protected against blows by the frame of the chassis of the tank wagon or by strong steel guards.
