Repeal of Article 227 of the China Order in Council and substitution of new Article.
AT THE COURT AT BUCKINGHAM PALACE,

WHEREAS
China.
HEREAS by Treaty, grant, usage, sufferance, and other lawful means, His Majesty the KING has jurisdiction within the dominions of the Republic of
Now, therefore, His Majesty, by virtue and in exercise of the powers in this behalf by the Foreign Jurisdiction Acts, 1890 and 1913 (53 & 54 Vict. c. 37 and 3 & 4 Geo. 5 c. 16), or otherwise in His Majesty vested, is pleased, by and with the advice of His Privy Council, to order, and it is hereby ordered, as follows:-
1. Article 227 of "The China Order in Council, 1925," is hereby repealed and the following article shall be substituted therefor :—
"All fees, fines, penalties, and other sums of money which, under the provi- sions of this Order or any Regulations, or Rules of Court, are stated or imposed in terms of British currency, shall, at the option of the Registrar, be paid either in British gold or in any silver dollar currency in use in China which may from time to time be specified by His Majesty's Minister at Peking, at a uniform rate of exchange, applicable to all such silver dollar currencies, which shall be fixed from time to time for this purpose by His Majesty's Minister at Peking but shall not exceed as a maximum the rate of two shillings for one silver dollar.
"For the purposes of the ascertainment of the value of any income for any pur- pose of qualification or of any limitation or security, in any case where this Order or any Rule or Regulation contains a reference to British currency, the rate of exchange of ten dollars to the pound sterling shall apply."
2. The present Order shall be cited as the China (Amendment) Order in Council, 1929, and shall take effect on the 1st January, 1930.
3. Copies of the present Order shall be exhibited as soon as possible in the office of the Supreme Court for China and at each Provincial Consulate, but failure to comply with the provisions of the present article shall in no way affect the operation of the other provisions of this Order.
And the Right Honourable ARTHUR HENDERSON, one of His Majesty's Principal Secretaries of State, is to give the necessary directions herein.
