No. 263.-llis Excellency the Governor has been pleased to appoint Mr. SOMERSET FITZROY to act as Attorney General, during the absence from the Colony of the Honour- able Sir JOSEPH HORSFORD KEMP, Kt., K.C., C.B.E., or until further notice, with effect from the 21st May, 1929.

No. 264. Ilis Excellency the Governor has been pleased to appoint Mr. NORMAN LOCKHART SMITH to be Head of the Sanitary Department and Registrar of Births and Deaths in addition to his other duties during the absence on leave of Mr. WILLIAM JAMES CARRIE, with effect from the 23rd May, 1929.

No. 265.- His Excellency the Governor has been pleased to recognise, provi- sionally and pending instructions from the Secretary of State for the Colonies, Don José LEDESMA as Consul for Spain in Hong Kong.

No. 266. Ilis Excellency the Governor has been pleased to make the following appointments in the Hong Kong Volunteer Defence Corps: -

Lance Sergeant DAVID MORGAN RICHARDS to be Second Lieutenant, to date from

15th May, 1929.

Lance Sergeant JAMES FRANCIS WRIGHT to be Second Lieutenant, to date from

18th May, 1929.

NOTICES.

No. 267.It is hereby notified for general information that reciprocal arrange- ments for recognition of Passenger Certificates granted in Hong Kong under the Merchant Shipping Ordinance, 1899, to ships of Class IA referred to in Table A in the Schedule to the said Ordinance, that is to say, sea-going ships having passenger cer- tificates under full Board of Trade requirements for foreign-going passenger ships, have been concluded with the following Dominions and States,——

Commonwealth of Australia.

India.

New Zealand.

Newfoundland.

Union of South Africa.

Japan.

United States of America.

Denmark.

Note. The arrangement with Denmark comes into effect on 1st July, 1929.
