THE DANGEROUS DRUGS ORDINANCE, 1923.
(Ordinance No. 22 of 1923).
THEREAS by section 5 (4) of the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, 1923, power is conferred on the Governor in Council to declare that the said Ordinance shall apply to any drug of whatever kind in the same manner as it applies to the drugs men- tioned in section 5 (1) of the said Ordinance if it appears to the Governor in Council that the drug is or is likely to be productive, if improperly used, of ill effects substan- tially of the same character or nature as or analogous to those produced by morphine or cocaine :
And whereas it appears to the Governor in Council that the drugs benzoyl-mor- phine, dihydro-oxycodeinone, dihydrocodeinone and their respective salts, and any pre- parations containing benzoyl-morphine, dihydro-oxycodeinone, or dihydrocedeinone are productive, if improperly used, of ill effects substantially of the same character or nature as or analogous to those produced by morphine or cocaine :
Now, therefore, the Governor in Council, in pursuance of the powers conferred upon him by section 5 (4) of the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, 1923, hereby declares that the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, 1993, shall henceforth apply to the drugs benzoyl-mor- phine, dihydro-ozycodeinone, dihydrocodeinone and their respective salts and to any preparation, admixture and extract containing benzoyl-morphine, dihydro-oxycodeinone or dihydrocodeinone.
NOTES:-(1) The drug benzoyl-morphine, which is an ESTER of morphine, should not be con- fused with benzyl-morphine, an ETHER of morphine. The latter drug is occasionally used in medicine, being sold under the proprietary name of Peronine".
(2) The Health Committee of the League of Nations refer to dihydro-oxycodeinone as Encodal (dihydro-oxycodeinone), and to dihydrocodeinone as Dicodide (dihydro-codeinone).
(3) Regulation I of the regulations made under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, 1923, is as follows,—
1. These regulations shall, except where otherwise expressed, apply to all the drugs to which the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, 1923, from time to time for the time being applies.

Regulations made by the Governor in Council under section 4 of the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, 1923, Ordinance No. 22 of 1923, on the 8th day of March, 1929.
The regulations made by the Governor in Council under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, 1923, and set forth on pages 810 to 821 of the Regulations of Hong Kong, 1844-1925, amended as appears in Government Notification No. 191, published in the Gazette of the 13th April, 1928, are hereby further amended as follows,-
(1) Regulation 2-on page 810-is amended by the substitution of the words ecgonine, diamorphine, benzoyl-morphine, dihydro-oxycodeinone or dihydrocodeinone" for the words "ecgonine or diamorphine" in lines 2 and 3 of regulation 2.
