No. 171.-It is hereby notified for general information that due notice of the appointment of the Reverend Mother TERESA PERA as Mother Superioress in the Colony of Hongkong of the Society of the Daughters of Charity of the Canossian Institute and proof thereof has been placed in the hands of His Excellency the Governor, as provided by section 6 (2) of Ordinance No. 26 of 1915.
No. 172. The following Order of His Majesty the King in Council, which appeared in the London Gazette of the 8th February, 1918, is published for general information.

WHEREAS by treaty, grant, usage, sufferance, and other lawful means fis Majesty
the King has jurisdiction in China :
And whereas it is desirable to make provision for the control of shipbuilding by per- sons subject to such jurisdiction during the continuance of the present war, and for such further period as the national interests may require :
NOW, THEREFORE, His Majesty, by virtue and in exercise of the powers in this behalf by "The Foreign Jurisdiction Act, 1890," or otherwise in His Majesty vested, is pleased, by and with the advice of His Privy Council, to order, and it is hereby ordered, as follows:--
1. This Order may be cited as The China (Control of Shipbuilding) Order in The China Order in Council, 1904," Council, 1918,” and shall be read as one with (hereinafter called the "Principal Order "), and with any Order amending the same.
2. It shall not be lawful for any person to lay down, build, or construct, or to direct or assist in theʻlaying down, building, or construction of a ship within the limits of the Principal Order without the previous consent in writing of the Minister, provided that this Article shall not apply to the completion of a ship which was actually under con- struction at the date of the making of this Order.
3. If any person lays down, builds, or constructs, or directs, or assists in the laying down, building, or construction of a ship in contravention of this Order, the ship, or part of a ship, so laid down or constructed shall be forfeited to the Crown, and the person so acting in contravention of this Order shall be liable to imprisonment, without hard labour, not exceeding six mouths, and to a fine not exceeding 500 dollars for every day during which such contravention continues; and, if such person be a company, every director and officer of the company shall be liable to the like penalty, unless he proves that the contravention took place without his knowledge or consent.
4. This Order shall come into force on the 1st day of March, 1918.
And the Right Honourable Arthur James Balfour, one of His Majesty's Principal Secretaries of State, is to give the necessary directions herein.
