Portuguese Company of the Hong Kong Volunteer Defence Corps.

Portuguese enlisting in the Portuguese Company of the Hong Kong Volunteer Defence Corps will not be regarded as having in any way renounced their status as Portuguese subjects. A Portuguese Volunteer will, however, on enlistment have to take the oath of allegiance as set out in the second schedule of Ordinance No. 2 of 1920, thereby binding himself to be faithful and bear true allegiance to His Majesty King GEORGE, in accordance with the provisions of the Hong Kong Volunteer Defence Ordi- nance, 1920, and of the rules which may be in force thereunder from time to time. Accordingly, for purposes of the Hong Kong Volunteer Defence Corps and while on duty with the Corps, a Portuguese Volunteer will be regarded as having the same status as all other Volunteers who are British subjects; but he will not be asked to renounce his Portuguese nationality, nor will his status as a Portuguese subject, apart from his duty to the Hong Kong Volunteer Defence Corps, be in any way questioned.
