COLONIAL SECRETARY'S DEPARTMENT.
No. S. 272.--It is hereby notified that sealed tenders in duplicate, which should be clearly marked "Tender for Lease of Crown Land opposite the Central Market", will be received at this Office until Noon on Tuesday, the 13th November, 1917, for the letting of Crown Land opposite the Central Market, for one year from 28th January, 1918, subject to the conditions specified below.
Each tender must be accompanied by a receipt to the effect that the tenderer has deposited in the Colonial Treasury a sum of $500 as a pledge of the bona fides of his offer, which sum shall be forfeited to the Crown if the tenderer refuse to carry out his tender and comply with the conditions hereinafter contained, should the tender be accepted.
The Government does not bind itself to accept the highest or any tender.
Forms of tender and further particulars can be obtained from the Director of Public Works.

Conditions relating to the letting of Crown Land opposite the Central Market for a period of one year from the 28th January, 1918 :-
(1) Lease area about 22,816 square feet.
(2) Upset Crown rent $1,5
,500 per month.
(3) The amount of monthly Crown rent offered to be stated in tender.
(4) The Crown rent will be payable monthly in advance on the 28th day of
each month.
(5) Tenders must specify the purposes for which the land is to be used.
It can
be used for no other purpose than those specified except the consent of the Governor be previously obtained.
(6) No matsheds will be permitted to be erected on the ground, but sheds with
boarded sides and tiled roofs may be erected.
(7) The lessee will be allowed to erect a temporary building for the purpose of
holding public performances under Ordinance No. 18 of 1908.
(8) The lessee will also be allowed to erect temporary shops on the sea frontage which must not be used as domestic buildings except for watchmen; such buildings to be constructed to the satisfaction of the Director of Public Works.
(9) All structures erected by the lessee to be cleared away before the termina- tion of the lease and the ground to be left in a condition to the satisfac- tion of the Director of Public Works.
(10) The successful tenderer shall before 28th January, 1918, execute a lease in the usual form of Crown Lease as modified by the foregoing Special Conditions.
(11) The lessee shall deposit a sum of $3,000 with the Colonial Treasurer as security for the due payment of rent and performance of conditions of lease.
(12) The present lessees have power under their lease to clear away before 27th January, 1918, all structures erected on the land and are required to leave the ground in a condition satisfactory to the Director of Public Works.
