No. 557.-The following notification with reference to the date of coming into operation of the Straits Settlements and Protected States Fugitive Offenders Order in Council, 1917, is published for general information.

THE STRAITS SETTLEMENTS AND PROTECTED STATES FUGITIVE OFFENDERS ORDER IN COUNCIL, 1917.

Date of coming into Operation.

With reference to Notification No. 350, published in the Hongkong Gazette of the 3rd August, 1917, the following Notification which was published in the London Gazette of the 26th June, 1917, is published for general information:--

Notification.

Whereas by the first clause of the Order in Council of the thirteenth day of June, 1917, entitled "The Straits Settlements and Protected States Fugitive Offen- ders Order in Council, 1917," it is provided that the Order shall come into force on such day as may be fixed by notification by His Majesty's Principal Secretary of State for the Colonies, published in the London Gazette:

Now, therefore, I, the Right Honourable WALTER HUME LONG, Ilis Majesty's Principal Secretary of State for the Colonies, do, in pursuance of the power so conferred on me, hereby notify that the said Order in Council shall come into force on the first day of July, 1917.
