The following sub-sections, numbered (2) and (3), were added to section 8:--

"(2.) Subject to the exercise of the above powers the regulations contained in the Second Schedule hereto shall be in force from the commencement of this Ordinance and shall be deemed to have been made under this Ordinance. (3.) No amendment of the First Appendix to the Second Schedule shall come

into force until it has been approved by the Legislative Council.”

The following sections, numbered 9 and 10, were added to the Bill :-

9. Every member of the Hongkong Defence Corps when performing any actual Pay and

military duty shall be entitled to pay and allowances at the same rates allowances. and subject to the same conditions as members of His Majesty's regular forces so far as such rates and conditions may by the Governor in Council

The old section 9 was deleted and the following section, numbered 11, was added to the Bill, the word "only" being inserted on the motion of Mr. POLLOCK :-

"11. This Ordinance shall continue in force only until the expiration of a period of Duration of

Ordinance.

The heading “Schedule was altered to read First Schedule" and the Hongkong Defence Corps Regulations, 1917, were added to the Bill as the "Second Schedule".

On Council resuming, the Attorney General reported that the Bill had passed through Committee with amendments and moved that it be read a third time.

The Colonial Secretary seconded.

Question-put and agreed to.

Bill read a third time and passed.

ADJOURNMENT.--The Council then adjourned sine die.

No. 408.--His Excellency the Governor has given his assent, in the name and on behalf of His Majesty the King, to the following Ordinances passed by the Legislative Council:-

Ordinance No. 20 of 1917. --An Ordinance to amend the Special Police Reserve

Ordinance, 1914, and to remove doubts as to the effect of the proclamation made under section 10 of the said Ordinance on the third day of Septem- ber, 1915.

Ordinance No. 21 of 1917.-An Ordinance to amend further the Jury Ordinance,

1887.
