No. 317. His Excellency the Governor has been pleased to appoint Mr. ARTHUR RAMSDEN CAVALIER to be a Member of the Board of Examiners, during the absence on leave of Mr. ALAN EUSTACE Woon, with effect from the 7th July, 1917.

No. 318.--His Excellency the Governor has been pleased to appoint Mr. FRANK BIRLEY JOHNSOx to be an Official Justice of the Peace for the Colony of Hongkong.

SIR,With reference to your Circular Despatch of the 7th September, I have the honour to transmit reports by the General Officer Commanding on the services rendered by the Hongkong Volunteer Corps and the Hongkong Volunteer Reserve, in which special mention is made of individuals who have rendered valuable services in connection with those forces.

2. Before his departure on leave Sir F. H. May expressed his concurrence with the recommendations made by Major-General VENTRIS.

Hongkong Volunteer Corps.

I desire to bring the following names to notice :--

Lieutenant-Colonel ARTHUR CHAPMAN, V.D., Commandant.

Commanded the Corps with zeal and efficiency during the war.

has fallen upon him.

Surgeon Major George DuxCAN RALPH BLACK.

Much extra work

In addition to his Volunteer duties has done daily duty at the Military Hospital since 22nd January, 1915, and given up half his time from a very busy private practice, thereby enabling a Royal Army Medical Corps officer to be sent on service. Paid two hundred dollars a month from Army funds.
