No. 60. The following Proclamation of His Majesty the KING is published for general information :-

A PROCLAMATION
MAKING CERTAIN ADDITIONS TO, AND AMENDMENTS IN, THE LIST OF ARTICLES TO BE TREATED AS CONTRABAND OF WAR.

THEREAS on the 14th day of October, 1915, We did issue Our Royal Proclamation specifying the articles which it was Our intention to treat as contraband during the continuance of hostilities, or until We did give further public notice; and
Whereas on the 27th day of January, 1916, the 12th day of April, 1916, the 27th day of June, 1916, the 3rd day of October, 1916, and the 23rd day of November, 1916, We did, by Our Royal Proclamations of those dates, make certain additions to and modi- fications in the said list of articles to be treated as contraband; and
Whereas it is expedient to make certain further additions to the said list:
Now, therefore, We do hereby declare, by and with the advice of Our Privy Council, that during the continuance of the war or until We do give further public notice, the following articles will be treated as absolute contraband, in addition to those set out in Our Royal Proclamations aforementioned :-
Oxalic acid and oxalates.
Formic acid and formates.
Phenates.
Metallic sulphites and thiosulphates.
Soda lime, and bleaching powder.
Platinum, osmium, ruthenium, rhodium, palladium, iridium, and the alloys and
compounds of these metals.
Strontium salts and compounds thereof.
Sulphate of barium (barytes).
Bone black.
And We do hereby further declare that, as from this date, the following amendments shall be made in Schedule I of Our Royal Proclamation of the 14th October, 1915, afore- mentioned:-
"}
For item 8, "ethyl alcohol; methyl alcohol," there shall be substituted "Alcohols,
including fusel oil and wood spirit, and their derivatives and preparations.' For item 35, "aluminium, alumina, and salts of aluminium," there shall be sub-
stituted "aluminium and its alloys, alumina, and salts of aluminium." For item 41, "wolframite, scheelite," there shall be substituted "tungsten ores.'
And We do hereby further declare that, as from this date, the following amendments shall be made in Schedule II of Our Royal Proclamation of the 14th October, 1915, afore- mentioned:-
For item 5, "fuel, other than mineral oils," there shall be substituted "fuel,
including charcoal, other than mineral oils.”
Given at Our Court at Buckingham Palace, this Twenty-ninth day of December, in the year of our Lord, One thousand nine hundred and sixteen, and in the Seventh year of Our Reign.
