On the 17th at 11.55 a.- "The barometer has risen in Japan, and fallen over China, Formosa and the Philippines. The depression in the Pacific to the NE of Luzon, is still indicated. An area of high pressure lies to the E of Japan. Moderate E winds are indicated in the Formosa Channel, and moderate variable winds over the N part of the China Sea." Forecast :-" Light variable winds; fair."
On the 18th at 11.55 a.- "The barometer has risen slightly on the E coast of China, and is little changed elsewhere. Pressure remains in considerable defect at the Philippine and Formosa stations, and the depression would appear to be almost stationary in the Pacific to the NE of Luzon. Moderate NE winds are indicated in the Formosa Channel, and moderate variable winds over the N part of the China Sea." Forecast:- light to moderate NE winds; showery."
On the 19th at 12.10 p." The barometer has risen slightly in N China, and fallen moderately in S China, Formosa and Luzon. The depression, which appears to have deep- ened, is probably central in the neighbourhood of N Luzon this morning. Fresh NE winds are indicated in the Formosa Channel and over the N part of the China Sea." Forecast:-- "Moderate NE winds; squally, showery."
On the 20th at 12.15 p.- "The barometer has fallen over S Japan and the Loochoos, and is little changed elsewhere. The depression is elongated and stationary. It extends over the N part of the China Sea and the Pacific towards the SE of Formosa. A typhoon may form in the depression. It appears most likely to do so in its Easteru extremity. Fresh NE winds are indicated in the Formosa Channel and along the Northern shores of the China Sea.* Forecast :-" Moderate NE winds; squally, showery."
On the 21st at 12.5 P. “The barometer has risen over E Japan and the S Philippines, and is little changed elsewhere. The depression is still lying across the N part of the China Sea and the Pacific to the SE of Formosa. There is some evidence that it may become cir- cular to the SW of Formosa. Disturbed weather with strong N and NE winds is indicated in the Formosa Channel and along the Northern shores of the China Sea.” Forecast :-"N winds; squally, showery." At 5.20 p. Orders issued to hoist the Black Cone point down- wards and Drum.
On the 22nd at 11.35 a. "The barometer has fallen over the E coast of China, Japan and the Loochoos, and risen over the Philippines. There are two depressions, one in the China Sea to the SE of Hongkong, apparently almost stationary; the other in the Pacific to the S of the Loochoos. The latter is probably moving Northwards, Strong NE and N winds are indicated in the Formosa Channel and along the Northern shores of the China Sen." Forecast:-" N winds; squally, showery."
On the 23rd at 10.35 a.--Orders issued to lower the signal. At 11.20 a. "The baro- meter has fallen on the China coast, more particularly at the Formosa Channel stations and in N China. The depression has moved Northwards, and now lies over the coast between Swatow and Amoy. Apparently it has no deep centre. Gradients have decreased over the E coast of China, but continue steep with strong SW winds over the China Sea."
Forecast: "W to SW winds; moderate to fresh showery."
On the 24th at 11.30 a.- "The barometer has risen slightly at Amoy and the S For- mosa stations; and fallen over N China, SW Japan and the Loochoos. The depression is still shown over S China; and the Pacific depression is lying yet to the SE of the Loochoos. Pressure is in defect generally. It is highest over E Japan in the North, and over the Philippine Archipelago in the South. Gradients are steep over the China Sea, and strong SW winds will be met with over that area. Forecast:-- SW winds, fresh to strong; squally, showery."
On the 25th at 11.35 a." The depression over China is spreading slowly Northwards. The barometer has a tendency to rise in the South, while it continues to fall slowly in the North. Pressure has increased and is now near the normal over the S Philippines. It remains in defect to the extent of 0.2 inches and upwards along the China Coast. Gradients thus continue steep over the China Sea, and very strong SW winds must still be expected to prevail over that area, particularly in the northern part." Forecast:-"SW winds, strong; squally, showery.'

On the 26th at 11.50 a.-6 "The barometer has risen slightly on the China coast. depression is still shown over S China. The barometer has risen considerably in Luzon, and pressure is now slightly above the normal over the S Philippines. Gradients are hence somewhat steeper than yesterday over the China Sea, and SW and S gales will prevail over the northern part of this area." Forecast:-"SW to S winds, moderate gale; squally, showery."
