Should circumstances at any time render it impossible or dangerous for steamers to pass the works, by day, a Red Flag will be hoisted on the right-hand (Black) Beacon, and vessels must not attempt to pass until such flag has been hauled down, but must anchor or make fast to the bank, if necessary, until it is indicated by the flag being hauled down that the channel is clear.

By night a Red Light under the Green Light will be used instead of the flag used by day.
