THE direction of lighthouses and pilotage in the Eastern Ocean notifies that from 1st (14th November) of the current year, the "Naval and Astronomical Observatory" has renewed the daily signalling of Noon in the following way :
Every day-5 minutes before noon a ball is raised to the top of the mast, which at average local Noon, viz., 15h. 12m. 25-49 sec. average Greenwich time, automatically drops. At the same moment a gun is fired automatically from a platform at the founda- tion of the mast.
