ORDINANCE No. 1 of 1923. (FEMALE DOMESTIC

SERVICE).

In exercise of the powers conferred by section 12 of the Female Domestic Service Ordinance, 1923, the Governor in Council amends the regulations published as Government Notification No. 568 in the Gazette of the 8th November, 1929, as amended by Government Notification No. 273 of 1980, No. 519 of 1980, No. 550 of 1931 and No. 424 of 1935 as follows:-

Amendments.

1. The following regulation is inserted after regulation

'44. The names of girls registered as mui-tsai shall be removed from the register as soon as practicable after they reach the age of eighteen years or marry before that age.

2. Regulation 5 (1) is amended by the addition of the following paragraph:-

(f) any intention to terminate the employment or re- linquish the custody or control of the mui-tsai in favour of any other person, for any reason whatever."

3. The following words are added at the end of regula- tion 7:

These wages shall be paid to the Secretary for Chinese Affairs on behalf of the mui-tsai in question on or before the end of each month. The Secretary for Chinese Affairs may in his discretion exempt any employer from payment of such wages or part thereof, if the mui-tsai is being sent to school or in any other circumstances which in his opinion justify exemption.'

4. The following words are added after the word "Mui Tsai" at the end of regulation 9:-

'who shall, if practicable, visit each registered mui-tsai at least three times in each half-year until she is fourteen years of age and thereafter at least twice in each half-year ”.
