Caution.--Due however to the difficulty of picking up the channel buoys in heavy weather, and the fact that the buoys may have carried away, vessels will expose themselves to serious danger in attempting to enter and should not do so except as a last resort.

(B) Outgoing Vessels.

Outgoing vessels from Manila will obtain permission to depart, and instructions for departure together with the time to arrive at the inner controlled area from the United States Naval Captain of the Port not less than two hours prior to departure.

Remarks.-(1) Vessels will not depart from Manila during typhoon weather.

Towing service through the minefield channels for sailing vessels,

or other vessels without mechanical power, must be furnished by the owners or agents of such vessels desiring to enter or depart from Manila Bay.

INDIAN OCEAN-CHRISTMAS ISLAND.

Instructions for Vessels Approaching the Island.

Position. Lat. 10° 30′ S., long. 105° 40′ E. (Approx.).

Details. Instructions for vessels approaching Christmas Island are as follows:- (a) No vessel is to approach the Island between sunset and sunrise. (b) No vessel is to approach within 23 miles of the Island until per- mission to do so has been given by the signal station at Smith

Point.

(c) Any vessel disregarding these instructions is liable to be fired on

without warning.
