THE NETHERLANDS EAST INDIES.

Examination Service Established.

Former Notices.-No. 34/1941 of the 6th February, 1941, and No. 39/1941 of the 10th February, 1941, are hereby cancelled.

Ports.-The Netherlands East Indies have established an examination service at

the following ports: -

SABANG, PANGKALAN, SOESOE, PANGKALAN BRANDAN, BELAWAN, TAND- JONG PINANG, TANDJONG BALAI, SAMBOE, TANDJONG OEBAN, DJAMBI, OOSTHAVEN, EMAHAVEN, SEMARANG, KALIANGA, PONTI- ANAK, BANDJERMASIN, SAMARINDA, MAKASSER and MENADO.

Details.-The examination service is exercised from sunrise to sunset and Masters are advised to regulate the speed of their vessels so as to arrive at ports at daybreak. At ports where there are European pilots, the examination will be carried out by the pilot. At ports where there are no pilots, the examination will be done by the Harbour Master while the vessel is approaching, or at anchor in the roads.

Remarks.-The following examination signals will be displayed from positions in

the harbour, signal stations, or pilot light vessels.

By Day :-Three Balls hoisted vertically.

By Night-Three Red Lights hoisted vertically.

Note:-Instructions given by the examination officer must be strictly adhered to

and ships failing to comply may be fired on.

MALAY PENINSULA-EAST COAST.

Dangerous Area.

Details.-An area bounded by the following is dangerous to navigation.

(1) On the north by the parallel of 02° 44' 00" N. (2) On the east by the meridian of 104° 30′ 00′′ E. (3) On the south by the parallel of 01° 35' 00" N. 4) On the west by the Coast of Malay Peninsula.

Note:- Mines will be laid in the above are a without further notice, and vessels wishing to pass through this area must apply to the British Naval Authorities for a route.

Vessels disregarding these instructions will do so at their risk

and peril.

Charts affected.- Nos. 1263, 2660A, 3543 and 3839.
