INSTRUCTIONS MADE BY HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR UNDER THE CIVIL DEFENCE CORPS REGULATIONS, 1941, PRESCRIBING THE PERIOD OF ENROLMENT AND CONDITIONS OF SERVICE OF MEMBERS OF THE AUXILIARY TRANSPORT SERVICE.

1. These Instructions may be cited as the Hong Kong Auxiliary Transport Service Instructions, 1941.
2. In these Instructions--
(a) Controller means the Controller of Land Trans- port who shall be the person holding the office of Controller of Land Transport;

(b) Deputy Controller means the officer who shall for the time being hold the office of Deputy Controller of Land Transport;

(c) officers means Transport Officers, Assistant Transport Officers, Depot Officers, Mechanical Engineer, Accountant, Workshop Officers, Inspectors of Motor Trans- port, Stores Officers and the Quartermaster;

(d) members" includes all persons who are enrolled for service in the Auxiliary Transport Service, irrespective of rank;
(e) Service means the Auxiliary Transport Service; (f) "Service equipment" includes all uniform clothing, boots, accoutrements, badges, tools and other gear and effects supplied by the Government and issued to a member of the Auxiliary Transport Service;

(g) "the period of the present emergency period ending with such date as the Governor may by order declare to be the date on which the emergency which was the occasion of making these Instructions came to an end.
3. The Service shall consist of a Controller and such members as may from time to time be appointed or enrolled.
4. The Controller, subject to the control of the Governor and the provisions of these Instructions, shall be charged with the direction and administration of the Service.
5. The Controller or the Government recruiting organiza- tion may enrol in the Service (a) such persons as are enrolled or may be enrolled in the essential services group of the Hong Kong Defence Reserve under the Compulsory Service Ordin- ance, 1939, and (b) such persons as qualify for enrolment in accordance with the Civil Defence Corps regulations for the time being in force for a term not exceeding the period of the present emergency and have signed the following declaration--
