MEDICAL DEPARTMENT.

No. 790.-Government Notification No. 1163 in Gazette No. 56 of the 18th October, 1940, is hereby cancelled and the following substituted therefor: --

The Scale of charges for medical treatment as from 1st July, 1941, inclusive, will be as follows:

For Government Hospitals other than Tsan Yuk Hospital, Lai Chi Kok

Hospital and the Sai Ying Pun Relief Hospital.

Children under twelve years of age will be charged at half the foregoing rates in each class.

Proprietary medicines and drugs not contained in the British Pharmacopoeia will be charged for if supplied by the Government Medical Department.

Naval, Military and Air Force patients and Government pensioners will be charged in accordance with the above scale.

Private patients charged 1st or 2nd Class daily rates for maintenance, other than the above, will be subject to the following additional charges:-

(1) For medical attendance, a charge at the rate of one third of the rate for

maintenance.

(2) For surgical operations :-

(a) Major operations-maximum $1,000 per operation.

(b) Minor operations--maximum $ 100 per operation.

This charge will be in addition to the charge for medical attendance.

(3) For normal maternity cases, charges of $300 and $100 respectively, in lieu

of the above charge for medical attendance.

(4) For Analytical, Bacteriological and Pathological Examinations at rates laid down in Government Notification No. 791 of 27th June, 1941.

(5) For Radiological Examinations, Therapeutic X-Ray and Radium Irradia- tion and Massage and Electrical treatment at rates laid down in Govern- ment Notification No. 1375 of 20th December, 1940.

(6) For Dental Examinations and Treatment at rates laid down in Government

Notification No. 929 of 16th August, 1940.

(7) For the services of a Special nurse at the rate of $14.00 a day.

(8) For consultations concerning private in or out patients with either a Government Consultant or a Government Medical Officer at a Govern- ment institution the amount of the fee will be a sum not exceeding $50.00.

(9) For electrocardiographical examination-- $10.00.

(10) For professional care concerning private patients by a Government Con- sultant at a Government institution a fee of not less than $5.00 per day and not exceeding $25.00 per day. This charge will be in lieu of the charge for medical attendance (see paragraph (1). )
