No. 433.-His Excellency the Governor has been pleased to approve the following promotion in the Hong Kong Volunteer Defence Corps, with effect from 20th August, 1940:-

Major REGINALD DAVID WALKER, M.C., to be Lieutenant-Colonel.

No. 434.-His Excellency the Governor has been pleased to make, under regula- tion 9 of the Hong Kong Naval Volunteer Force, the following appointment in the Hong, Kong Naval Volunteer Force :--

To be Acting Sub-Lieutenant.

DAVID PRYDE Ross, Esquire, with effect from 19th March, 1941.

No. 435.-It is hereby notified for general information that the Government of the United States of America has agreed to take charge of British interests in Bulgaria.

Order.

In exercise of the powers conferred by regulation 2 (1) of the Defence Regulations, 1940, as amended by Government Notification 335 published in the Gazette of 21st March, 1941, His Excellency the Governor hereby orders and declares that the following trades and industries, being services of public utility and essential for the prosecution of the war and essential to the life of the community, shall be essential services within the meaning and for the purposes of the Defence Regulations, 1940, and shall be included in the order of His Excellency the Governor published as Government Notification 745 in the Gazette Extraordinary of 4th September, 1939, as paragraphs 3 and 4 thereof—

3. dockyards and shipbuilding yards;

4. foundries, that is to say, iron foundries, copper foundries, brass foundries and other premises or places in which the process of founding or casting any metal is carried on; except any premises or places in which such process is carried on by not more than five persons and as subsidiary to the repair or completion of some other work.
