HONG KONG VOLUNTEER DEFENCE Corps.

No. 361. It is notified for general information that :-

--

1. In accordance with Volunteer Ordinance, No. 10 of 1933, First Appendix, Para- graph 9, the G.O.C. with the approval of His Excellency the Governor after consulta- tion with the Commandant has decided that the present system of training of one day a week for all active units of the Hong Kong Volunteer Defence Corps shall be changed to one half a day a week with effect from Monday, 21st April 1941. In addition, two evening parades a week and one week-end a mouth at the discretion of Unit Comman- ders will be continued.

2. The normal half-days on which each unit will be required to parade are as under (2 p.m. to 9.30 p.m. approximately) :-

1st Battery

2nd Battery

3rd Battery.

4th Battery.

5th A.A. Battery, No. 1 Section

5th A.A. Battery, No. 2 Section Field Company Engineers Corps Signals..

3. Attendance at these parades is strictly compulsory, unless leave of absence has been granted by the Honourable the Colonial Secretary.

4. Applications for leave should be addressed in the first instance to the Com- mandant. Hong Kong Volunteer Defence Corps who will forward them to the Honourable the Colonial Secretary for a final decision. It is pointed out, however, that a man will be considered as absent without leave unless he produces proof that leave has actually been granted; the mere fact of an application having been submitted will not excuse a man's absence and he will be liable to disciplinary action under the Volunteer Ordinance.

5. It is stressed that the only applications which will normally receive considera- tion will be those on behalf of men who are actively engaged on the production of War Material and such applications must state clearly the reasons why leave is required, and the maximum amount of training any man can do.
