TRANSLATION.
Notification No. 1592 of Department of Communications.
KOTTOI LIGHTHOUSE TO BE ESTABLISHED.
NOTICE is hereby given that a lighthouse will be established at Kottoi, Toyora, province of Nagato, and it will be lighted on and after January 15th, 1912. The lighthouse is as under :-
KOTTOI LIGHTHOUSE.
Position :-Lat. 34° 19′ 14′′ N., Long. 130° 53′ 18′′ E. (according to the Japanese Admiralty chart No. 136).
Description :-Octagonal concrete tower painted white.
Height of light :—13.9 ft. from the base, and 85.5 ft. above the water.
Character of light :-Acetylene gas fixed white light.
Illuminated arc :-From N. 40° 10′ E., through E., to S. 4° 50′ E.
Red ray over an are of from N. 40° 10' E. through E. to S. 80° 25′ E. indicates Nezumi-jima, Kabe-iwa and dangerous reefs lying in the vicinity of the entrance to Kottoi, and another red ray between the bearings of S. 71° 15′ E. and S. 4° 50′ E. covers Futago-jima and dangerous reefs lying in the vicinity of the entrance to Kottoi. (Magnetic bearings taken from seaward.)
Candle power :— -White light 200, and red light 80.
Distance visible:-White light 13 nautical miles and red light 9 nautical miles, in clear
weather.

NOTICE is hereby given that Fort No. 3 Staff Light on the Fort No. 3, Gulf of Tokyo, which has been suspended owing to its displacement work (see Notifications Nos. 725 and 759 of Department of Communications, July 1911), will be relighted from about the end of January, 1912. The light is as under :-
Position :-682-9 ft. N. 47° W. from the site of the former staff light.
Description:Wooden staff painted white.
Height of light:-29·8 ft. from the base, and 82-3 ft. above the water.
Character of light :-Pintsch gas occulting red light; light 3 seconds, eclipse 3 seconds. Illuminated arc :-The whole horizon.
Candle power-32.
Distance visible :-7 nautical miles in clear weather.
Vessels should pass, all round the staff, at a distance not nearer than 3 cables in the north and west, and than 2 cables in the east and south from the staff.
Further notice will be given on its relighting.
