WARNING.
Information has recently reached His Majesty's Govern- ment in the United Kingdom which indicates that attempts are being made in that country to recruit persons for service with forces of one or other of the contending parties in Spain. His Majesty's Government in the United Kingdom desire to call attention to the fact that the provisions of the Foreign Enlistment Act, 1870, and in particular sections 4 and 5, are applicable in the case of the present conflict in Spain. It is accordingly an offence for any British subject within or without His Majesty's dominions to accept or agree to accept any commission or engagement in the military, naval or air force services of either party to the present conflict or for any person, whether a British subject or not, within His Majesty's dominions, to induce any other person to accept or agree to accept any such commission or engagement. It is also an offence for any British subject to leave or attempt to leave His Majesty's dominions with the intention of accepting any such commission or engagement, or for any person, whether a British subject or not, within His Majesty's dominions, to induce any other person so to do.
Any person contravening these provisions is liable on conviction to imprisonment up to 2 years or to a fine. or to both fine and imprisonment.
The Foreign Enlisment Act, 1870, applies to British Subjects everywhere and to foreign subjects within His Majesty's dominions including the adjacent territorial waters. It was proclaimed in the Colony of Hong Kong on the 3rd October, 1870.
