57. EQUIPMENT FOR LIFE RAFTS-Every life raft forming part of the statutory life saving appliances of any pilgrim ship engaged on short international voyages shall be provided with the full equipment for life rafts specified in the Instructions with the exception that, subject to the ap- proval of the Government Marine Surveyor, biscuits need not be provided.

58. LIFE-BUOYs:-The minimum number of approved life-buoys with which such ships are to be provided is as follows:

59. LIFE-JACKETS --One approved life-jacket shall be carried for each person on board.

PART IV.

Ships not certified for the carriage of passengers.

GROUP I. CLASS 12.

60. The requirements as to life saving appliances specified under the heading "Group I. Class 12" shall be complied with by tugs and salvage ships which proceed beyond River Trade Limits.

61. DAVITS --All boats shall be attached to davits.

62. BOATS: -A ship of this Class shall carry on each side of the ship lifeboats of Class 1 in such number and of such aggregate capacity as will accommodate the full number of sea-going crew.

Provided that the Government Marine Surveyor may, at his discretion, relieve ships so employed previous to 1st March, 1935, from the full requirements of this regulation where lifeboats of Class 1 are carried on each side of the ship in such number and of such aggregate capacity as will accommodation at least 75 per cent of the full number of sea-going crew.

63. BUOYANT APPARATUS:—In the case of ships to which the proviso of the foregoing regulation applies, ap- proved buoyant apparatus shall be carried so that the accom-
