5. His Excellency the Governor addressed the Council and moved the following

Resolution:

"We, the Members of the Legislative Council of Hong Kong, assembled for the first time since the proclamation of the accession of our King Edward VIII, desire on behalf of ourselves and of the whole people of this Colony to tender our humble duty, loyal devotion and affectionate homage to His Most Gracious Majesty and pray with one heart and voice that his reign over us may be long, happy, peaceful and glorious. God save the King."

The Honourable Sir HENRY E. POLLOCK, Senior Unofficial Member, seconded. The Honourable Mr. Ts'o SEEN-WAN addressed the Council and supported the

Resolution on behalf of the Chinese Community.

6. Married Women Bill.—The Attorney General addressed the Council and moved the First reading of a Bill intituled "An Ordinance to amend the law relating to the capacity, property and liabilities of married women and the liabilities of husbands.'

The Colonial Secretary seconded.

Question-put and agreed to.

Bill read a first time.

7. Tortfeasors Bill.-The Attorney General addressed the Council and moved the First reading of a Bill intituled "An Ordinance to amend the law relating to proceedings against, and contribution between, tortfesors."

The Colonial Secretary seconded.

Question-put and agreed to.

Bill read a first time.

8. Liquors Amendment Bill.-The Attorney General addressed the Council and moved the First reading of a Bill intituled An Ordinance to amend the law relating to alcoholic liquors."

The Colonial Secretary seconded.

Question-put and agreed to.

Bill read a first time.

9. Public Reclamations Validation and Clauses Bill.-The Second reading of this

Bill was postponed.

10. Defences (Firing Areas) Bill.-The Attorney General addressed the Council and moved the Second reading of a Bill intituled "An Ordinance to regulate Practice Firing from Hong Kong Defences and for clearing of certain Sea Areas in connection therewith."

The Colonial Secretary seconded.

Question-put and agreed to.

Bill read a second time.

Council in Committee on the Bill.

On Council resuming, the Attorney General reported that the Bill had passed through Committee without amendment, and moved that it be read a third time.
