Removal of Aids to Navigation in old Ship Channel leading over the Woosung Inner Bar, and alterations in Aids to Navigation in Gough Island-" Astræa" Channel.
NOTICE is hereby given that, owing to the rapid shoaling of the Channel leading over the Woosung Inner Bar, all Aids to Navigation in that Channel will be removed on the 15th September proximo.
It is further notified that on the date above mentioned, or as soon thereafter as possi- ble, changes in marking the fairway of the Gough Island-"Astræa" Channel will be made as follows:-
(1.) The Black painted Buoy exhibiting a fixed Red light, now marking the lower.
end of the Woosung Inner Bar, will be shifted seven cables South-east of its present position, and will then mark the Eastern side of the entrance to the new Channel.
(2.) The three Buoys numbered 1, 2 and 3 respectively now marking the starboard side of the fairway for vessels inward bound will be removed, and this side of the fairway will be marked, temporarily, by four Light-boats painted Red and numbered 1, 2, 3 and 4 respectively, commencing from the lower end, with their numbers painted in White on either side. The masts of these Light- boats will be surmounted by a spherical shape, painted Black, and they will exhibit a Red light vertically over a White light between sunset and sunrise. (3.) The Leading Marks on the upper end of Gough Island now indicating the centre of the fairway will be discontinued, and near their site three Beacons will be erected, each of which will exhibit a Red light between sunset and sunrise. When any two of these Beacons are seen in line, they will indicate the extreme Eastern side of the fairway, and vessels are particularly cautioned not to open to the Eastward of these lines.
