A BILL

ENTITLED

An Ordinance to amend The Prison Ordinance

1899.

Be it enacted by the Governor of Hongkong, with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council thereof, as follows:

1. This Ordinance may be cited as The Prisou Ameud- ment Ordinance 1909 and shall be read and construed as one with The Prison Ordinance 1899 (hereinafter called the Principal Ordinance).

2. Section 12 of the Principal Ordinance shall be read and construed as if the words "and every officer of a prison who contrary to any Prison Rules or Regulatious gives or causes to be given or endeavours to give anything of whatever nature to any prisoner" appeared therein be- fore the word “shall" in the sixth line thereof.

Objects and Reasons.

The Ordinance makes it an offence, punishable on Sum- mary conviction, for an officer of a prison to give a prisoner any article the use of which by such prisoner is prohibited by the Prison Rules or Regulations.

ENTITLED

An Ordinance to amend The Tramways Ordin-

ance 1883.

BE it enacted by the Governor of Hongkong, with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council thereof, as follows:--

1. This Ordinance may be cited as The Tramways Amendment Ordinance 1909 and shall be read and con- strued as one with The Tramways Ordinance 1883 (here- inafter called the Principal Ordinance).

2. The following section, numbered 61a, is hereby in- serted after section 61 of the Principal Ordinance :—

"61a. Every passenger by a tramway shall, on re- quest by an officer or servant of the Tramway Company, either produce, and if so requested deliver up, a ticket showing that his fare is paid, or pay his fare from the place whence he started, or give the officer or servant his name and address; and in case of default shall be liable on summary conviction to a fine not ex- ceeding ten dollars,”

3. Section 62 of the Principal Ordinance is hereby amended by the substitution of the words "the last two preceding sections" for the words "the last preceding sec- tion" in the fourth line thereof.

Objects and Reasons,

The object of this Bill is to compel persons travelling by Tram to produce their tickets on request of a Tramway servant, and to bring within the scope of section 62 of the Principal Ordinance offenders against the preceding sections 61 and 61a.
