Definition,

2. Section 2 of the Principal Ordinance is hereby amended as follows :--

After the definition of Steamship" the following shall be inserted :-" Motor Boat' means any vessel not exceeding sixty tons propelled by any mechanical power however applied except steam oars or sails.

3. Section 4 of the Principal Ordinance is hereby amended as follows:-

In sub-section (2) (b) by the insertion of the words

of not more than two hundred tons" after the words "only mate "in the third line thereof.

In sub-section (13) by the omission of the words "the Assistant Harbour Master, the Marine Surveyor and the Assistant Marine Surveyor" in the first and second lines thereof,

(1.) For the purpose of this Part the expression passenger ship" shall mean every ship ex- ceeding sixty tons register carrying passengers from to or between places in the waters of the Colony.

5. Section 10 of the Principal Ordinance is hereby amended by the addition of the following sub-sections:-

(24.) If the provisions of this Part, which require a passenger ship to be surveyed and to have a passenger certificate, are not complied with in the case of any such ship the master or owner of the ship shall, without prejudice to any other remedy or penalty under this Ordinance, be liable on summary conviction to a penalty not exceeding one hundred dollars for every passenger carried from or to any place in the waters of the Colony.

(25.) The owner or master of any passenger ship shall not receive or have on board thereof or ou or in any part thereof at any place within the waters of the Colony any number of passengers which having regard to the time occasion and circumstances of the case is greater than the number allowed by the passenger certi- ficate, and if he does so he shall for each offence be liable to a penalty not exceeding two hundred dollars and also to an additional penalty not exceeding five dollars for every passenger above the number so allowed.

6. Section 13 of the Principal Ordinance is hereby book of boat amended by the addition of the following sub-sections and inspection of provisos :-

life-saving appliances.

(7.) The master of every British and Colonial ship shall enter or cause to be entered in the official log-book, a statement, or if there is no official log-book, cause a record to be kept, of every occasion on which boat drill is practised on board the ship, and on which the life-saving appliances on board the ship have been ex- amined for the purpose of seeing that these appliances are fit and ready for use.

(8.) The master shall, if and when required by any officer of the Harbour Department, produce for inspection any record kept by him for the purpose of this section.

(9.) If the master of a ship fails to comply with any requirement of sub-sections (7) and (8) of this section he shall be liable on summary convic- tion for each offence to a penalty not exceeding one hundred dollars.
