No. 655. His Excellency the Officer Administering the Government has been pleased to appoint Dr. JAMES THORNTON SMALLEY to act as Principal Civil Medical Officer until further notice.

No. 656.-His Excellency the Officer Administering the Government has been pleased to approve the promotion of Captain HUGH BLACKWELL LAYARD DOWBIGGIN to the rank of Major in the Hong Kong Volunteer Defence Corps, with effect from the 9th November, 1927.

No. 657.-His Excellency the Officer Administering the Government has been pleased to appoint Lieut.-Colonel and Brevet Colonel JOHN SOUTHEY BOSTOCK, C.B.E., R.A.M.C., to be a Member of the Sanitary Board for a term of three years, vice Lieut.- Colonel SAMUEL BOYLAN SMITH, D.S.O., O.B.E, R.A.M.C., with effect from this date.

No. 658.-His Excellency the Officer Administering the Government has been pleased to appoint Mr. Tsó SEEN-WAN, LL.D., to be a Member of the Sanitary Board for a further term of three years, with effect from the 15th November, 1927.

His Excellency the Officer Administering the Government has been pleased to re-appoint, under section 9 (4) of the Liquors Consolidation Ordinance, 1911, Ordinance No. 9 of 1911, Dr. WILFRED VINCENT MILLER KOCH to be a Member of the Licensing Board for a period of three years, with effect from the 14th November, 1927.

1. The Pension Minute (General Order No. 155) is amended by the addition of the following to clause No. 1:-
10. A European nursing sister or matron, who has served not less than 3 years in the Colony, and not less than 15 years in all as a qualified nursing sister or matron in the public service or in a public hospital, in the Colony or elsewhere, to which she was appointed by the Colonial Government or through the Overseas Nursing Association and who would not otherwise be entitled to a pension, gratuity or other retiring
