APPOINTMENTS, &c.

No. 298. His Excellency the Governor has been pleased to make the following promotion and transfer in the Hong Kong Volunteer Defence Corps :-

Captain CHRISTOPHER WILLSON, O.B.E., V.D., to be promoted to the rank of Major and transferred to the Reserve of Officers, Hong Kong Volunteer Defence Corps, with effect from 6th May, 1927.

No. 299. His Excellency the Governor has been pleased to appoint, provisionally and subject to His Majesty's pleasure, Mr. JOHN OWEN HUGHES to be an Unofficial Member of the Legislative Council, with effect from 18th May, 1927.

COLONIAL SECRETARY'S DEPARTMENT.

No, 300. It is hereby notified that under section 90 of the Public Health and Buildings Ordinance, 1903, His Excellency the Governor in Council has ordered that the Indian Cemetery at Tai Shek Ku shall be closed from and after the 1st day of June,

1927.

No. 301. With reference to Government Notification No. 679 of 10th December, 1926, it is hereby notified that the exclusion of the Police Magistrates Department from the operation of the Holidays Ordinance, 1912, Ordinance No. 5 of 1912, on 24th May, and 27th December, 1927, should be deleted and the 26th December, 1927, substituted.

MAGISTRACY.

No. 302.-It is hereby notified by Command of His Excellency the Governor that an election by the Justices of the Peace of a Justice of the Peace to serve on the Legis- lative Council, during the absence of the Honourable Sir HENRY EDWARD POLLOCK, K.C., will take place at the Registry, Supreme Court, on Monday, the 30th day of May, 1927, commencing at 4 o'clock in the afternoon.

The ballot-box will be closed at 5.30 p.m.

Justices of the Peace who are Government officials are not entitled to take part in these proceedings.

Every candidate must be nominated in writing by one Justice and seconded by another and the nomination delivered to the undersigned not later than 4 p.m. on Thursday, the 26th day of May, 1927.

Forms may be obtained at the Magistracy.
