TRANSFER OF HONG KONG RECORDS
1.
You have agreed to let us have MVD's input into a letter which Mr Woodrow is coordinating in response to Mr Cheung's
(Director of Immigration, Hong Kong) of 8 July. This requests us to make decisions on the detail of what records we will require and in what form. The broader parameters of your requirements and those of other affected Departments were set out in Mr Woodrow's letter of 19 March 1992 to Mrs Torg Hong Kong Immigration Department (HKID). HKID have made it very clear that they need notice now of our needs if they are to be sure to deliver what is needed in time. We have already failed to meet Mr Cheung's deadline for a response and would like to get back to him as soon as possible.
2.
The references, which I did not have to hand when we spoke are as follows; Mr Woodrow's minute of 4 August to Mr Parkinson, your minute of 26 August to Miss Brookes, Mr Page's minute of 21 September to Mr Aust and Mr Woodrow's minute of 11 October to Mr Page. I understand that this matter has also been the subject of various telephone calls between you and Mr Woodrow over the last two months.
3.
I appreciate that the matter is a complicated one, which we must get right; if MVD will need more than a further week to respond, would you please let me know so that we can warn Mr Cheung that we expect a further delay.
He bames Dones.
