DISPOSAL OF FILES

LAST OFF FOR INDEA

?

One of my tasks in my extension period is to pursue the file disposal issue.

HKID are now anxious to formulate a preliminary plan. Alex Yeung is pressing Peggy Dee for broad proposals by 1 November, Peggy is therefore pressing me for a broad Home Office view. The question of whether retention would be in paper or microfilm form can be considered later...

1.

Registration files

Judy Ching and Jeremy Faye apparently shared the following view for disposal of registration files when the Scheme has ended:

approved cases (50,000) transferred to new BCG.

a)

b) rejected cases (probably around 50,000)

destroy.

I suggest we confirm it

This still seems reasonable to me: remains the Home Office view at present.

Do you agree please?

2. Policy etc Files

operational must if

There will be about 200 policy (including instructions and admin matters) files, all classified not all are SECRET level.

No earlier disposal plans are recorded but there is a possibla need for future reference to them. As there are relatively few files I suggest the Home Office view is that they should be transferred to BCG.

Do you agree please?

3.

Passport Files

a)

Scheme

Files are currently attached to relevant registration papers when passport applications are made. I suggest the Home Office view that things stay that way and files initially go to the BCG. Consideration could be given
