BRITISH NATIONALITY SCHEME: TRANSFER OF RECORDS
1.
You will recall that I consulted you earlier this month over a request from Elsie Tu, Chairman of the LegCo House Committee, about what would happen to the records relating to the British Nationality Scheme once the scheme has been concluded. You now have a copy of Mr Goodlad's letter to Mrs Tu of 13 January which said that it was still too early to say exactly where or in what form the documents would be kept, but confirmed that it was proposed to transfer all the records to the UK at the conclusion of the exercise. I have sent Keith Kwok a copy of the letter.
2. You told me that the Home Office would in due course assess the work needed to transfer documents and make the necessary arrangements. Will you keep us posted? We shall be doing the same for visa and passport records (some to the UK, some to the Consulate General). Migration and Visa Department and Nationality Treaty and Claims Department lead on this and will correct me if I speak out of turn, but it occurs to me that there may be scope for cooperation here? It would be a shame for either us or you to have to reinvent the wheel when looking at transferring records.
3.
I take this opportunity to let you know that I plan to visit Hong Kong in the second half of March. Let's speak nearer the time about what ground I might cover with Keith Kwok and others.
ever,
Yours
