FUTURE BRITISH CONSULATE-GENERAL:
BRITISH CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
NOTE FOR STEERING COMMITTEE WORKING GROUP
1.
Present plans for the future Consulate General include
provision for the inclusion of the British Chamber of Commerce
(BCC) inside the building. Recently the BCC asked if they could be given more space than the 107 sq m already allocated to them.
OED and the architects, Farells, agreed that there was
sufficient space in the building to give them a total of
200 sq m.
2. However it has not yet been resolved how we can legally
include the BCC inside our building nor whether we can charge
them rent. Legal Advisers have said that the Private Treaty
Grant requires that we must seek prior written approval from the
Director of Buildings and Lands. We need to consider therefore
whether to approach the Director to ask his permission to
accomodate the BCC and to charge them commercial rent. We might propose to keep an element of this to cover the pro-rata running
and staffing costs of the Consulate-General and pay the rest to
