Terms of reference for Executive Director of the British Chamber of Commerce

1. Accountable to the General Committee for the performance of his duties and the

achievement of objectives.

2. Reports to the Chairman generally and to specific Officers as appropriate e.g. to

the Treasurer on financial matters.

3. Responsible for defining the organisation of the Executive; recruitment of staff; management of the organisation including objectives setting for individuals and performance monitoring; training and development.

4. Responsible for implementing the Chamber's strategy; proposing annual plans

and budgets; defining targets and objectives; reporting on performance.

5. In respect of the four major elements of the Chamber's strategy:

Solidly established Chamber

He should:

generate income from services and functions

run an efficient, cost effective organisation that provides value to members

be seen to be active and generate active support from members

support the Committee in recruitment/fund raising

b) Services and Networks

He should:

identify "customers needs and meet those needs if cost effective to do so, or if not, be a source of information on how else those needs could be met

organise social functions, seminars

create develop and maintain contacts and networks of value to the Chamber and to members

monitor and report effectiveness in meeting "customer" needs, propose improvements and implement those if approved by the General Committee
