MEETING WITH THE BRITISH COUNCIL : 21 SEPTEMBER

1.

As you know, I am due to hold a meeting at 15.00 hours on 21 September with Mr Davey, the Regional Director for East Asia and the Pacific in the British Council, and his staff. Although this was set up before I had received the instructions on relations between AUS commands and the British Council under the new plans for budgetary devolution, it fits in well. The meeting will become the encounter programmed for October each year at which the AUS command considers the British Council's draft regional plan.

2. I have now received the attached letter from Mr Davey, enclosing his draft. You will see that Mr Davey also lists a number of points which he proposes that we should discuss.

3. I should be most grateful if you could come to the meeting properly equipped. Mr Davey asks in particular about the markings on Council operations received from Heads of Mission in the current TMR round. Please ensure that you are briefed to talk about these: I have not myself yet seen the questionnaires.

4.

You are welcome to bring to the meeting other members of your Department. I also hope that a representative of CRD can take part. I am speaking separately to Mr Elam about this.
