HONG KONG: NEW BUILDING
Thank you for arranging the meeting to discuss the new building last week.
We have analysed the available information on running costs together with OED and agreed on what could be regarded as the most likely overall figure for annual running costs in the British Council part of the new building. This amounts to HK$5,893,066 which using the exchange rate of HK$ 11.6 to the pound is equivalent to £508,023 at the 1993/94 current price base.
This amount will cover the following items:
(a)
electricity for lighting and power
air-conditioning
cleaning
external cleaning
general maintenance
part of the administrative requirement
utilities
It does not include the following items which will be the responsibility of the FCO.
(b)
long-term maintenance
repair of external fabric
external lighting
compound security
lift and escalator replacement
rates (if applicable)
It was also suggested at the meeting that we provide you with a figure relating to our space usage in the new building that relates to our teaching operation. At present this is estimated to be 69% of the total British Council space i.e. 4245 square metres.
