Problem

1. Final Sketch Designs are near completion for the new building to house the Consulate-General, British Council and some staff flats after 1997. The estimated cost is about £29 million (at current costs). Should we proceed?

Recommendation

2.

I recommend that we should proceed with the project at the estimated cost of about £29m, and that the Treasury's approval now be sought. The Hong Kong Steering Committee and the Senior British Trade commissioner's Co-ordinating Committee concur.
