We spoke about FCO telno 746 and Hong Kong telno 1319. I explained that we have commissioned further material from the Political Adviser so that I can prepare a more detailed line to take for News Department in advance of Mr Osman's arrival in the UK on 19 August.

In case there are questions in the meantime about Mr Osman and his sentence in Hong Kong, you may like to say - subject to whatever line the Home Office are taking that this is a matter for Hong Kong, but that Mr Osman pleaded guilty and was sentenced on the main count of fraud involving a monumental sum of money.
